During the academic year 2014-15 we extended our project outreach into schools. PhD students Sophia David, Georgina Hunter,  Anna-Marie Linnell and Tamara Sharp went into local schools to deliver workshops to circa 1000 pupils at 17 schools including Bassetts Farm, Cockwood, Dartmouth, Ermington, Halwill, Horwood and Newton Tracey, Littleham, Marwood, Newton Ferrers, and Pilton Blue, among others. The workshops aimed to develop ideas about the significance and value of the pupils’ local seaside through art and creative writing and proved to be a fantastic experience for all involved.

Stephanie Devoy, a teacher from Lifton Community Primary School, has told us that the children ‘loved exploring the objects, creating their pastel drawings and starting their stories. . . . people outside of school coming in to interact with the children is an invaluable experience in itself and heightens the “cultural capital” for all.’

Below, Workshop Leader Tamara Sharp speaks about her experience. Tamara is a PhD student of Creative Writing.
